Our after-hours emergency service is available 365 days of the year, including public holidays.

Northside Emergency Veterinary Service (NEVS) is an after-hours veterinary hospital that works in conjunction with your regular vet to provide the care and expertise that your pet needs outside of business hours.

Veterinarians on Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches may refer your pet to NEVS for an after-hours consultation. If treatment is already underway, they may recommend transferring your pet to NEVS for overnight or weekend care.

Our team of dedicated and experienced veterinarians and nurses endeavour to provide the highest quality of veterinary care and assistance at all times. We welcome you to contact us should you require any emergency advice over the phone.

Northside Emergency Veterinary Service (NEVS) was founded in 1989. Since then, we have grown into a well-established veterinary hospital providing emergency veterinary services for your pets whilst your regular veterinarian is closed.

Our hospital offers many services including digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, echocardiogram, in house pathology, blood pressure measurement, blood transfusion facilities, intensive care unit, oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, as well as a surgical preparation area and a well equipped surgical theatre. NEVS is not a specialist hospital, however referral to a specialist hospital can be arranged if more complex procedures and treatment are required for your pet.

NEVS works in conjunction with your regular vet to provide the care and expertise that your pet needs. Your regular vet may recommend our service to you if it is more desirable to have your pet monitored overnight. Transfer of your pet to our service will then be arranged by your regular vet.

In most circumstances, your pet will be transferred back to your regular vet the following day by NEVS ambulance service, at no additional cost. Please note that this transfer service is not applicable over the public holidays and weekends. Records of your pet’s progress and bill incurred at NEVS will be forwarded to your regular vet by the following morning. We encourage you to contact us anytime for your pet’s progress during its stay with us.

Unfortunately there are times when your pet is critically ill and therefore unable to make the journey back to the regular vet hospital. At this time, NEVS staff will discuss the option of our day care service. This service is operated by Forest Animal Hospital which shares the same premises as NEVS. Their team of veterinarians and nurses work very closely with NEVS to ensure the best possible outcome for your pet.

If your pet requires the day care service, NEVS staff will provide a phone number for you to contact regarding your pet’s progress during the day. NEVS will then resume the overnight care and so forth, until your pet becomes suitable to be either transferred back to your regular veterinarian or be discharged from hospital.
